Capo Comino

Touched by absolutely transparent water, Capo Comino beach (about 12 Km

away from Siniscola) is sorrounded by high dunes of pure white and soft sand,

which form a Sardinian desert spot populated by junipers and sea daffodils.

Inside, in little expanses of salty water, you can see

colonies of pink flamingoes and other marsh birds.

In this fabulous environment the Italian director Lina Wertmüller set her

masterpiece "Swept away", starring Giancarlo Giannini and Mariangela Melato.

The same location was chosen by Madonna for her remake of the film.

The landscape changes, but the magic remains: short before the

lighthouse, which marks the most oriental part of the island of Sardinia,

the sandy beach ends and the cliffs start, with red granite rocks modelled

in fancy countless shapes from the continuous action of sea and wind.

The uncontaminated naturalistic area, of great environmental value, extends

until Berchida beach and beyond, covered by the green cloak of thick macchia.
